The algerian economy and the challenge of diversification : what perspectives?
This paper studies the feasibility of accelerating economic growth outside of hydrocarbons in Algeria. It examines the structural economic changes needed and the investment required to attain these transformations. It shows, through simulations, that because of unfavorable initial conditions, the accelerated diversification of the economy faces the problem of sustainability of external and internal debt. Postponing economic reforms in Algeria accentuates the 'lock in' of the economy.
